What's New at Minecraft Live: Dragon Ball Z, Copper, and Friendly Fishing

On September 27, 2025, a new edition of Minecraft Live took place, the event where Mojang Studios shares with the community the upcoming game updates, collaborations, and projects in development. This time, the announcements ranged from major gameplay changes to social initiatives and a collaboration with Dragon Ball Z.

An Event That Sets the Tone

Minecraft Live has become the central stage to learn about the game’s future. Since 2024, two broadcasts a year have been held, allowing Mojang to showcase content more frequently and maintain community engagement.

The September 2025 edition stood out by introducing the long-awaited utility of copper, new forms of combat and exploration, and collaborations that expand the game’s universe.

The Copper Age

The update The Copper Age (1.21.9), released on September 30, 2025, was the main announcement. After years of being almost a decorative and underused ore, copper finally receives a meaningful role.

Key features:

• Copper tools and armor, plus horse armor.
• Progressive oxidation of items and blocks.
• Copper Golem, which organizes items in Copper Chests. When oxidized, it becomes a statue, reactivatable with an axe.
• Interactions with Iron Golem, which offers flowers to the Copper Golem.
• Shelves that display and rotate items, with redstone integration for automatic trades.
• New decorative copper blocks: chains, lanterns, and torches.
• Redesigned dye icons for visual accessibility.

Mounts of Mayhem: New Mobility and Combat

Scheduled for the Holiday 2025 season, Mounts of Mayhem will bring updates to mounts and weapons:

• Nautilus, a water mount with the Breath of the Nautilus effect, which delays oxygen consumption. A Zombie Nautilus variant will also be available.
• New weapon: the Spear, craftable in different materials. It offers a fast stab attack or a charged strike, with damage scaling based on player speed.
• Zombie Horse, returning to survival mode after years, now spawning naturally in the world.

Collaboration with Dragon Ball Z

The event confirmed a Dragon Ball Z DLC for the Bedrock Edition, which includes:

• Free item “Super Saiyan Hair”, available until November 4, 2025.
• Skins of Dragon Ball Z characters and possible additional emotes, with further details to be revealed.

Friendly Fishing

The event also highlighted a social and environmental initiative: the release of Friendly Fishing, created in partnership with Conservation International. This DLC encourages players to become marine explorers with specific goals:

• Fish Encyclopedia: record different species within the game.
• Underwater exploration: discover hidden structures with treasures and rewards.
• Environmental awareness: collect plastic waste polluting the oceans.

Beyond gameplay, the DLC aims to raise awareness of marine ecosystem protection. To reinforce this commitment, Microsoft will donate 100% of the net proceeds from the first three months after launch, along with an initial contribution of USD 100,000 directed to conservation programs.

Minecraft Live September 2025 showcased announcements that combined gameplay improvements with collaborations and social impact projects.
